Ice Box Cookies

Mix and sift together:

4          -           cup                  flour (sift before measuring)

1          -           teaspoon          soda

1          -           teaspoon          cream of tartar

-           1/2       teaspoon          salt

Cream:

1          -           cup                  lard

Gradually add:

2          -           cup                  brown sugar

2          -           -                       eggs (beaten well)

1          -           teaspoon          vanilla

Optional - add:

1          -           cup                  chopped nuts or raisins

Gradually add flour mixture.

A)  Dough becomes stiff at end of mixing. May have to finish mixing by hand.
B)  Form into 2 rolls at least 1” in diameter. Wrap and refrigerate.
C)  Slice about 1/4” thick.
D)  Bake until lightly browned (15 - 20 minutes).
